Self-Confidence Is More Than Your Looks

Self-confidence is often described as a feeling of trust in one's abilities, qualities, and judgment. Although your physical appearance can definitely impact your self-confidence, please remember that it goes beyond your looks.

I can remember back in secondary school, there were many individuals that appeared to have self-confidence based on their academic achievement, popularity, and looks. Oftentimes, those students who held their heads up high and walked purposely were voted most likely to succeed, most popular, they sometimes ran for student government positions, and as a result, achieved great milestones. I truly admired their accomplishments and overall attitude. Their positive mindset, behavior, and actions led to success.

As I reflect, I did not always have the highest self-confidence, but through the years I have learned to believe in myself and embrace my whole being. Self-confidence can be increased if you nurture and strengthen it. Whether it is in your personal or professional life, it provides great opportunities and benefits.

Here a few tips that can help you increase your self-confidence.

  1. Repeat positive affirmations every morning and if possible throughout the day. The mind controls our behavior and emotions.

  2. Believe in your ability to accomplish your goals and visualize your desired outcome.

  3. Walk with purpose and confidently communicate with people in all areas of your life.

  4. Take pride in your appearance and make time to nurture your whole essence (emotional, physical, spiritual, and mental wellness).

  5. Don’t be afraid to fail. If you don’t get it done the first time around, keep pushing, thriving, and trying.

You must remember that you are a strong, driven, smart, and beautiful individual who must live out their purpose in life. Each new day is an opportunity to work towards your vision and goals. Those who continue to move forward confidently will accomplish greatness in due time.
